20-year-old Rachel Lu, also known as LVRA (pronounced Loo–Rah) was born in Edinburgh to Chinese parents. Her passion for creating music that melds beautiful East Asian elements with contemporary alt-pop resulted in her constructing a home studio with the confines of her crammed bedroom, where she has recorded both of her tracks to date.
‘u should be in love with me’ is LVRA’s first single off her forthcoming debut EP which is due for release early next year.Entirely self-written, recorded and produced, with mixing by Cherif Hashizume (Jon Hopkins, Kelly Lee Owens, Charlie Cunningham), ‘u should be in love with me’ captures an artist with a striking array of talents.
Pained, passionate and utterly self-assured, her sleek vocal gift is destined for bigger stages. It’s the perfect vehicle to express her lyrics, which can resonate with lovelorn over-thinkers everywhere. Arguably the most captivating element though, is the production. Somehow maximal and restrained at the same time, LVRA taps into a global-facing mix of trap, soul and R&B without being defined by any one genre.
